Last week we ran a blog post about upcoming Spring Break activities for school age kids, and every Friday we run our picks for weekend fun under the What’s On this Weekend (WOW!) header. Whenever we compile these types of lists –- whether for the magazine, our enewsletter, or our blog –- we’re always blown away by the sheer volume and diversity of activities offered at our local libraries. On March 2, book lovers everywhere will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday by participating in Read Across America Day, an annual event sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) to encourage children and families to discover the joy of reading.

This year the Read Across America theme centers around The Lorax -– the beloved book by Dr. Seuss and the movie, which opens nationwide March 2.

We all know Oaks Park is the place for summertime amusement park fun, but we sometimes forget the roller rink is open for family fun all year long. Gung Hay Fat Choy! Chuc Mung Nam Moi! The Year of the Dragon is nearly upon us, and the Chinese and Vietnamese New Year’s festivities happening around town offer an especially entertaining and engaging way to introduce your kids to different cultures.

Lan Su Chinese Garden hosts two full weeks of celebrations, beginning Jan. 23 this year, including lion and dragon dances, performances, crafts, story telling and much more! Check their website for a schedule of events.
