Support for Local Dads

There are so many wonderful groups for local moms, but dads need support, too! In honor of Father’s Day, we thought we’d share some groups designed especially for the big man in your little one’s life:

Baby Dad’s Chat Time: A relaxed, facilitated meeting for dads, expecting dads, granddads, step dads, and maybe-someday-dads to discuss whatever’s on their minds. Impact Northwest’s Community Dads’ Group: An informal group for dads and kids 3 and under. Hang out, swap stories, eat pizza and play. English and Spanish speaking facilitators are present at every group. FREE. Every Tuesday, 6-7:30 pm, and every Friday, 10-11:30 am. (Fourth Friday of the month is a field trip!) New Fathers’ Group. This group for fathers of children under 5 is facilitated by Sam Stevens, LMFT. It’s limited to seven dads, so call for availability. $80/month. Every other Saturday, 4-5:30 pm. 516 SE Morrison, Ste. 310. 503-957-8797.

New Fathers’ Meetup/Workshop: Meet other new and soon-to-be dads in a casual environment where you can ask questions, get answers and enjoy a cup of coffee. Facilitated by Sam Stevens, LMFT. FREE. (Food and drink for sale.) First Sunday of every month, 12:30-2 pm. Cafe au Play, 5633 SE Division St. 503-957-8797.

Outdoor Dads: Monthly hikes from April through November for dads and kids 5 and under. (Moms and older kids are welcome.) FREE. Outings on the fourth Saturday of each month, 11 am.

Portland Dads at Home: Local stay-at-home dads connecting with each other for play dates, adventures, support and more. FREE.

The Dads Group (TDG). A social support group for dads – or men who want to become dads – who are gay, bisexual, transgendered or questioning. FREE. Fourth Thursday of every month, 7-9 pm. The Q Center, 4115 N Mississippi Ave. 503-310-4723 (Brett) or 503-697-7004 (Terry).
