More Money for Mercy Corps

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to Mercy Corps’ Haiti relief efforts so far!! On January 15, we set up a donations page on the Mercy Corps Web site to raise $1,000 in donations which we pledged to match for a total of $2,000. As of Friday, January 22, we’ve met and surpassed that goal.

Thank you so much for your generous response to this catastrophe! According to an email we received from Mercy Corps on Sunday, their work in Haiti has included the following:

  • Restocking kitchens at Port-au-Prince’s overwhelmed General Hospital with enough staples to feed patients, staff and family members for two weeks;
  • Working with UNICEF to deliver hygiene kits, nutritional supplements and toys to mothers and children at the hospital;
  • Delivering high-energy biscuits to 600 patients and family members at a second beleaguered hospital; and
  • Moving forward with plans to improve the water supply in heavily affected areas of town, train caregivers on how to treat quake-related trauma in kids, and pay residents to clear rubble from neighborhoods.

While we can no longer match your donations, we urge you to keep donating. We’ll leave this page up indefinitely, because even after the initial rescue efforts have been completed, there will be much left to do to rebuild the country of Haiti and the lives of its citizens.
