As of Friday, January 22, we’ve met and surpassed that goal.

Thank you so much for your generous response to this catastrophe! According to an email we received from Mercy Corps on Sunday, their work in Haiti has included the following:

PLEASE NOTE: We just received an update about donating breastmilk for Haiti. Apparently the World Health Organization (WHO) has NOT requested breastmilk donations specifically for Haitian babies at this time. Here is a statement from Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA): “In order to support HMBANA to be prepared to provide donor milk if UNICEF, the Red Cross, WHO or other international organization involved on the front lines were to contact us please call your nearest HMBANA bank(found at www.HMBANA .org) and become a donor so that we will have the needed processed donor milk.”

The best thing to do at this point, it appears, is to donate money. We’ve pledged to match all donations up to $1,000 (for a total of $2,000) to Mercy Corps for Haiti Relief when you donate More…

Last week we posted information on Facebook and Twitter about a local program collecting breast milk for infants and children who survived the recent earthquake in Haiti. The response was so strong we thought we should post it here, too.

But first, we want to announce a way to DOUBLE YOUR MONETARY DONATIONS for Haiti relief: We’ll match the first $1,000 donated to Mercy Corps for Haiti relief when you donate on our Mercy Corps Page. Thank you!

Now for the info on breast milk donations: In conjunction with World Health Organization, Adventist Medical Center’s breast milk donor depot is accepting donations of breast milk More…

Our hearts go out to the people of Haiti as they struggle to survive the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck near the capital of Port-au-Prince Tuesday. The city reportedly has been destroyed by the quake, the most powerful to hit the country in more than two centuries.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere with an infrastructure incapable of adequately assisting its citizens and rebuilding the nation after such a catastrophe. The world needs to help.

You can help today by donating to relief efforts under way by Mercy Corps and the American Red Cross. Here’s how:

If you are trying to locate family members in Haiti, contact the State Department at 888-407-4747.

For updates on the situation in Haiti, visit Mercy Corps’ Web site.

Finally, this disaster is yet another reminder that we all need to be as prepared as possible to survive natural disasters. Visit the American Red Cross Preparedness Web site for information on how you can prepare your home, your family and your workplace.

When we visited his doctor in October (for an unrelated issue), we asked about the vaccine. But alas, there was none to be had.

For a few weeks, I frantically searched More…

couchcatLast week my husband took our son to the coast for two nights. I stayed home because I had two big work projects to finish, but I still had my evenings free. (To be honest, I had my late afternoons free as well.) What to do?

This was a big event for me, only the second time in over nine years that I’ve been home alone for more than 24 hours. I considered various More…
