Health care stories from the trenches

I’m very aware that surfing the ‘net can quickly turn into a MONUMENTAL waste of time. For the most part, I manage to avoid it.
But I’ve just spent more than an hour reading the health care horror stories on Organizing for America’s health care stories site.
If you don’t think that we need to change the way that we now deliver health care in this country, I urge you to do the same. I know, from my own experience and that of friends and family, that there are problems with our health care system. But I truly didn’t realize just how systemic, widespread – and heartbreaking – the system’s injustices are.
Many of the stories involve being denied insurance due to pre-existing conditions or actually having health insurance but finding that life saving treatments are not covered (for a number of reasons). Others are about simply not being able to afford the premiums.
You can read stories from Oregonians here; and Washington residents’ stories here.
It’s anybody’s guess what will come of our current health care reform effort. But it’s a certainty that something must be done.
