What are you and the kids doing on your day off?

We made two big assumptions here: One that you have school-aged kids; and two, that, if you work, you magically get Presidents’ Day off (or you can finagle it somehow).
If those two assumptions hold true, here are two great ideas for families on Monday, Feb. 16:
Stand for Children Rally to Protect Kids & Schools. According to Stand for Children, Gov. Kulongoski’s proposed 2009 budget for K-12 education falls $50 million short of the amount needed to maintain current service levels. To focus public attention on this issue, Stand for Children is holding a rally on Monday, Feb. 16 at the State Capitol in Salem from noon to 1 pm. Parents are encouraged to bring their kids. For more information and to register for the event, visit www.stand.org/or/rally.
President’s Day with President Lincoln at OMSI. Celebrate Presidents’ Day with a special presentation about the 16th U.S. President, including a Lincoln re-enactor, Stephen Holgate, who will host a mock press conference about Lincoln’s life in the early 1860s. (How cool is that??) Also includes a re-enactment of camp life during the Civil War. 10:30 am to 2 pm; Lincoln appearance at 11 am. Free. Parking $2. OMSI, 1945 SE Water Ave. 503-797-4000. www.omsi.edu.
