On Monday we blogged about the fact that, in the midst of our economic doldrums, some enterprises are doing okay – namely Wal-Mart and McDonald’s. Another that is faring well is the movie industry. (Heaven forbid that Brad and Angelina should have to take a pay cut!)
The reason, according to one pundit, is that we need an escape from the bad news; hence, we take ourselves out to the movies (hopefully during Economy Hour).
Here’s a better idea for escapism: Locally-produced LAUGHTER.
Comedian (and mother of two) Jacki Sturkie has teamed up with Airplay Café to offer local moms a much-needed monthly “momedy” event called “Time Out: The Mamalogues”. The evening shows include Sturkie providing stand-up comedy and an open mic for other moms to share their stories. Each show features a different theme. February’s is, appropriately, “Honey, I Shrunk My Libido” (you can almost hear the punch lines…).
The February show takes place Thursday (Feb. 12) from 7 to 8:30 pm at Airplay Café, 701 E Burnside. Tickets are $8 through www.brownpapertickets.com and $10 at the door (normally the cost is $5 and $8, respectively, but the February show includes a band). Moms interested in participating on stage should e-mail: jsturkie@gmail.com.
