Most of us mamas have fond memories of selling Girl Scout cookies – often our cookie nostalgia is about specific varieties of the cookies themselves. For me it was the Vanilla Cream Sandwich cookies. I was a really picky eater as a kid – so the fancier types didn’t appeal to me. But, oh man, I loved those Vanilla Sandwich cookies!
At some point, they quit making my favorites – frown face here – but I still buy several boxes of Girl Scout cookies each year. I have no daughters so, for a long time, we bought them from one of my sons’ Girl Scout friends. If you don’t have a Girl Scout in your life, you can EASILY find a location where the cookies are being sold at this handy “cookie locator” (ain’t the Internet great??!!)

When (not IF!) you buy your cookies, the Girl Scouts will ask you if you’d like to purchase another box or two for the Oregon Food Bank. Each year, the Girl Scouts designate a local nonprofit to donate to through their “Gift of Caring” program. They chose the Oregon Food Bank this year after hearing Gov. Kulongoski stress that the food bank is receiving more requests for help than in years past, while also receiving fewer donations.
Talk about one-stop-shopping! You can buy cookies, memories and make a difference, all at one time… (Cookies are on sale through March 15.)
Here’s a little Girl Scout Cookie Trivia:

You’ve got your favorites – but do you know which varieties sell the most? According to the Girl Scouts of America, Thin Mints is the favorite closely followed by Samoas®/Caramel deLites, then it’s Peanut Butter Patties®/Tagalongs®, Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-si-dos™
