Metro Parent readers are awesome!

Update: Since writing the below post this morning, we’ve learned that our “Home for the Holidays” effort brought in another $1,300! So the total amount that will go toward helping local homeless families into permanent housing is $6,300. Thanks to all of you who made this possible!
Here’s the earlier post:
In our November issue, Metro Parent asked its readers to open their hearts – and their wallets – to help get a homeless family off the streets and into permanent housing for the New Year. You responded – in spades.
In fact, we blew past the original goal of $2,500 (the amount needed to transition one family into stable housing) and we decided to keep going – to try to get TWO families off the streets. Between our readers – who ponied up almost $3,000 – and the Metro Parent match, we were able to donate $5,000 to JOIN, a local nonprofit that works wonders in helping get homeless individuals and families off the streets and KEEP them in stable housing (after a full year, three-quarters of their clients are still living in their new homes).
Gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling, doesn’t it?
